XD's are great and I think it's a good idea to get them if that's what fits you best. If you're definately getting the sub to carry, then I would absolutely get the tactical. If you were getting only one I'd say get the service model.
Another thing is I don't think it's a good idea to get rid of all those other guns. If you're thinning the herd because you really want to get rid of them, then it's a good idea. But if you're getting rid of them just to fund the purchase of the XD's I wouldn't do it. You'll regret it in the end. Also the Taurus 24/7 is a great weapon. I think the .45GAP is a good round. But I'm of the opinion that all of the major handgun calibers will do you right in a defensive situation. I feel like you really don't get separation in the calibers until you get to the 10mm. 10mm is hands down superior to the rest of the major handgun calibers. Excluding big-bore revolvers and such. But basically it's just all personal preference. Good luck. |

1800 hours 27 June Update:
Went by the shop and talked with one of the guys there. He showed me a lightly used HS 2000 in 98% with 2 extra Klinton mags + night sights for $350 that had just come in today on consignment. Told him that I didn't have the $¢ratch to put down on it today. Worked out a deal that as soon as anything off my tired iron pile was sold that it applied to it, so it went into the layaway safe today with my name on it. As I was forewarned, the guy behind the counter wasn't too keen on the XD GAP Tactical when I explained why I was putting the tired iron pile on consignment and, then, turning around to get another set of pistols. But this is a fairly well stocked shop http://www.gunmasterinc.com/home/ and they had ~ 6 boxes of GAP on the shelf. I kept a Sig P220 .45 so I already have a nice .45ACP, so I'm going to hold off on buying the XD GAP until I really decide it fits in the plan. Friday is Payday from my second job and am going to put the XD Sub Compact on layaway. Talked briefly with the owner and he is ordering some of the XD-Xtensions for me so that I can use the HiCap mags in either pistol. wganz ¶ Disclaimer: My only connection to GunMaster in Plano, Texas is that of a satisfied customer. |

wganz, I won't give any advice about the guns because you have already received that. I would suggest tho, if you intend to stop anywhere on the way home with the fanny pack on, you might reconsider. Especially if it is black in color, which reeks of "Hey, I have a gun in here" IMO. If you want to carry one, try a different color or put some patches on the black one (maybe a picture of Michael Moore, lol).
You might want to carry it in IWB or OWB holster. Just my 1/2 cent. |

Anyways...nothing wrong with a fanny pack. They are convienient to put on and take off. Access to you pistol is somewhat fast and it's totally concealed and legal. I'd wear one, but choose not to because they make you look like a dork. |

Hi wganz, nice to see you over here too.
The XD platform will certainly do anything you ask of it, as long as you don't care about the scarcity of .45 GAP. I am not a big fan of the GAP, only because I have so many guns in ACP already. If I were considering my first .45 I would have to look seriously at it. I have no doubts at all as to its performance. Most of my .45 ACP handloads only fill maybe half the case capacity, so I think there is a real argument in favor of downsizing the cartridge. I am a big fan of the XD. It is a home run ergonomically, and I am pleased with its accuracy. [anecdote] I took a friend shooting yesterday, and while he had a basic familiarity with most handguns he hadn't seen or shot the XD. With my XD40 and some lead handloads, he was double-tapping accurately with an hour, and hitting 8" round pepper poppers regularly at a distance of about 35 yards. He liked the feel of the XD and was even more impressed after I pointed out things like the ambi safety, chamber & cocking indicator. He did seem to prefer the 4" over the 5" though. [/anecdote] |

Fanny packs are very common with nurses, so it won't stand out. Even if it is noticed, at 2330hrs vicinity of downtown Dallas that would be a good thing in that you would be less likely to be selected as an easy mark by the predators. <rant="on"> Had a discussion with some LEOs and they said that predators will pick out people in scrubs. They said that healthcare workers are considered as a an easy mark since they are regarded as pacifists with a paying job that give them some ¢a$h to carry around. Lo risk, hi yield. Helluva a thing to know when you clock out that you're wearing a bullseye. And that is why I pack. Hardware is locked in the trunk and I'm parked on the roof by the door so it is 4 steps && I've retrieved my precious. That way I'm not violating state law. Screw the company's policy since the ones that wrote it aren't the ones that have to wear bulleyes(aka scrubs) and d@%# sure aren't there at 2300hrs on a Saturday night. </rant> Quote:
I've got a good .45 ACP in that SIG P220 so I'm not antsy for the .45GAP. I can afford to wait on that. THANKS FOR THE INPUT!! wganz ¶ |
