XD40-SC Noob question..

Hey all, just got my first XD the other day, and after breaking it down, I am a bit surprised that the rear slide rails on the frame seem to be solid plastic.. thought that they'd at least have steel inserts in them (ala Glock). Not super freaked out about it, but would love to hear any information or thoughts anyone has on the subject. Is this pistol going to wear really quickly in that area?

I'm coming to the XD from a sig 1911, so maybe I'm just having metal withdrawal symptoms..

Thanks in advance!

Aaron

I have over 12,000 rounds through my XD9 that has the same type rails. No signs of major wear.

Thats good to hear, I know the XDs have a stellar reputation, otherwise I wouldn't have added one to my collection..

Does anyone know if there are metal inserts inside them?

No metal inserts, they are just a guide and do not actually support the action itself. If you look at the size of the actual action block (compared to that that of a Glock) it's enomormous.

You'll never even notice any wear on those rear pieces. Don't sweat it.

Besides, the polymer that these things are mode of is......ahem......a Bass-Tard! It'll put a hurting on carbide bits if you try drilling or cutting it.

Absolutely, you can borrow it anytime.....

Just send me a money order for $500, I'll cash it and then I'll send you the stripped grip frame to drill and cut to your hearts content.

But seriously.....

Enjoy it, it's a great gun. I tend to shoot my Sub-Comp more than any of my other ones.

1 - Because I always have it with me and 2 - It's friggin accurate!!!

I was out with a few bud's of mine a couple weeks back with M9's and Glocks, all with 4"+ barrels, and they were rather pissed that this little 3" .40 was putting together better groups than their duty weapons.

I really like my SC, it's my favorite gun by far.

Don't worry about the "plastic"! These things are built like a tank!
