Sight white dot gone!?
Last weekend at the range, at some point, it vanished.
No matter how much I soak it, or brush at it with a nylon brush, or pick at it with a toothpick... stuck black. How can the white dot just vanish.. only a hole there now It's very weird... I've given up at this point... I'm sure springfield would fix... but I don't want to be without my gun for weeks. I'm thinking a drop of white model car paint or white fingernail paint. Ideas for an quick/easy fix? |

Yeah model paint or polish. Is it your front or back sites. Alot of ppl I know sharpee out the back sites. Some solvents will take the paint out.

The same thing happened to my front sight. It's just a little bit of paint that's in the sight to make it white like that. Picking at it and brushing it actually makes it worse, as I wound up digging out an excess of paint, and now my sight's just about gone. Your best bet is to go with some model paint if you're going to keep the stock sights. Maybe something with high visibility?

I found it.
Last weekend i was at the range and when i got home i noticed a white DOT on the rear of my rear night sight. XD40 w/ factory night sights. Upon looking at it, the black surface on the rear of the sight had come off. Leaving a small white dot. I used a Q-tip with some flat black paint and covered it up again. Problem solved i think.

sights
I'm a new owner of a XD ...But my humble opion... Thier sights definitely leave something to be desired.
You might consider purchasing better sights. I know its more money but I think it would be money well spent. The XD sights are one of the downsides of XD's If you you want to stay with the factory sights Clean and degease the hole. Buy some testers paint Bright color whatever you choose use the tip of a toothpick and lightly dap a small bit of paint into the hole What ever you Good Luck Jack |

It's just paint. It can get stained dark by powder residue or it can get washed away by gun cleaner.

on mine i have truglos now, but my wife wanted to keep hers white. to make them bright white I put a dab of white epoxy paint. (from Lowes, appliance epoxy white spray paint, rustoleum). made a big difference on how well they stand out. now to talk her into truglos.

Apple Barrel brand acrylic paint works great. Here are some pics of another member's sights painted with it.
Here's my baby, finally finished! I painted mine with the same paint but with the Neon Green color. It's very high vis.

I think it is a sign. Time for a sight upgrade.

I cleaned first time, but only with Kleenbore. Used some acrylic model paint that a buddy uses for warhammer toys. When it dried, it cracked, probably should have put a second layer.
Went to range Saturday, and first 2 shots blew the paint layer out again. Take two. Clean throughly with kleenbore to get rid of any mess from my range trip, use some acetone to more thoroughly clean them. Decided to go the alternate color route. Going to put several layers I think. First layer once it tried past these images, pitted in the circle, filled in once already. May have to add a third, will see. Hopefully it holds better than springfield's original sights that only lasted Since January when I bought the gun. grrrrrr Probably would have preferred a brighter yellow, didn't turn at quite as well as I had in my mind. But it's not bad, and easily changed. |
