One-hand defensive shooting -- G&A article

I really enjoyed this article in Guns & Ammo. It makes sense and I think I should incorporate one-hand shooting into my regular training and practice.

Shooting One-Handed

What do you guys think?

Really good article. I need to practice shooting live fire with one hand more often. I do draw and dry-fire with one hand somewhat often.

Both IDPA and IPSC require shooting one-handed in nearly all stages of a match. That is what is meant when you see a stage listed as strong-hand, your primary use hand, and weak-hand, the one you don't use most of the time.

All I can say is from seven yards in which ever hand I have to use will cause the bullet to hit the target. Maybe not quite as well-placed as it would be if I can use both hands but well enough.

Btw, learning to point shoot is a a good idea also, with with one hand or both. This is shooting and hitting your target without even using the sights.

I usually go through 4 or 5 mags one handed at the range. I find it very easy to shoot strong handed. Im probably just as accurate if not maybe alittle more one handed. Its weird... Mostly because Im still working on my grip and stance when shooting two handed probably.

That is what handguns are all about. To be held and fired with one hand. Your other hand may be busy with something else. When I shoot, I always shoot quite a bit with each hand, one handed.

In a real confrontation you may be lucky enough to have something to hide behind, like a tree, and want to shoot with only one hand so as not to expose so much of yourself to the enemy.

One Handed Shooting

Wow... I read a book years ago Fairborn Sykes Titled I dont remember something about shoot to live I think anyway after talking about the history of shooting and the chinese riots where police where losing they developed the thought of of one hand shooting using a crouch stance.
I practiced it with a snubby, one handed "point shooting" not from the hip but gun raised in front of my face "seeing or Pointing" the gun to the target. I did pretty well with it too
I dont practice it now Maybe I should
I've been around the block maybe you cant reinvent the wheel

When I remember, I try to regularly shoot weak and strong hand only.

Handguns were originally designed for one-handed use, and in a defensive situation it's more likely that you'll be using a hand to hold something; fend off an attack; or in a defensive position.

I always try to do some weak-hand and strong-hand shooting. One-handed is more than likely how will be shooting in a tactical situatio.
