What exactly is "tactical" about the XD Tactical?
What I mean is, how did it get that name? I don't think I've seen this discussed?

Probably just because of the longer barrel one would be more inclined to take a more accurate sidearm into a "tactical" situation like a SWAT team or what not considering conceal-ability really isn't an issue.
Just a thought... plus if you put a flashlight on it... it gets like +300 points in the tacticool department.

Tactical stands for "It has a big big barrel that will scare the sh*t out of bad guy and make him piss his pants". The tactic is: spread fear before spreading led.

maybe because with the longer barrel, you have a longer under barrel rail mount, therefore you can mount a 700 lumens tac light under it causing to burn the BG without a single shot fired?

Nothing but marketing.....
What sounds better? XD 5" or XD Tactical? And, as others have said before, it's "Tacticool" It's like many of the Sig's (i.e the Equinox), or Para's "USPSA Todd Jarrett" edition, or Kimber's various lines of "Carry" models. Just sounds sexy.....kinda like the difference between Mary and MARIA. Mary is a school girl, but Maria will rock ya baby!!!

its all marketing
sub compact makes sense service makes sence tactical kinda makes sense since in a tactical situation like said before with SWAT concealing isnt much of an issue so your going to bring as much gun as the mission will allow. and of course it just sounds cool "tacticool" i dont knwo where but someone on here had tacticool put on his xd where it usually says tactical it looked perfect exactly like the factory stamp |

Doesn't make sense, since the 5" barrel would be easier to grab and leverage. Seems like most "tactical" situations requiring a handgun would be "close in" fighting, where a shorter barrel might work better. Otherwise the AR's would be used.

^ yeah, I've trained with longer barrels and shorter barrels, in CQB i'd rather have a 3" 45cal pistol then a M4 carbine anyday. There were plenty of times where I was hit from carrying a M4 carbine and not being able to turn around the corner fast enough to hit the enemy, not that Im not fast, its just that the barrel were so long that you have to make space between the objects in the way and the target. During the split second of adjusting to shot was usually the times where I got hit.

The marketing department. And as soon as they change the Service model to the "Operator", sales will soar on the 4".
