I had to check this just out of curiosity......

You have to have either a broken striker damper spring or it's missing, along with the other items that have been discussed.

I just stripped one of mine down real quick and even if I push the striker safety down, I still have to physically push the striker forward to get it to show.

Just a thought.

The side closing can push it forward if it doesn't catch the sear. Push the pin forward and the upward pressure of the safety block can keep it there.

True, but is his striker going forward by just dropping the safety and without manual pressure?

Again, it was just a thought.

You won't be modifying the striker safety with the drop in kit so you don't have anything to worry about.

First thing, thanks Scott for the help and explaination of the issue. Like I said before, I'm a shooter not a gun smith.

Next, The person that did the trigger job is NOT a hack. Heck, you may have one of his trigger jobs. I have around 15-25K live fire round, and somewhere around 30-50K dry fire through this gun. Parts wear down.

Don't worry about it. I've shot the hell out of this gun before anything broke on it.

The XD is an inertia fired gun. The striker spring will only push the striker until the striker spring is stopped by the striker retainer pin. after that the mass of the striker will take over and ignite the primer. The striker dampener spring should retract the striker behind the breach face.

If the striker retainer pin is broken or missing it will not capture the striker spring, the striker spring will push the striker all the way forward. modifying the striker safety block can make this a dangers situation.

here are some pic's of the problem replicated on a new gun. I removed the striker retainer pin and pushed the unmodified striker safety block down.

I did not do the trigger job on the above mentioned gun. I will not modify the striker safety block on any of my trigger jobs, for just this reason.
