I like the XD safeties the way they are. Being passive , you don't even know they are there. So I vote that the XD doesn't really need it.

However, for an IPSC Production gun, I would love to get my hands on one to see how it feels. Built in IPSC legal 1911 style thumb rest might be a plus.

Hi, just picked up my XD 45 today. I bought the 4" service with thumb lock. I was in the Air Force a long time ago and feel a little naked without
the lock. Will test it out when the snow melts a little....

I read somewhere that the thumb safety is there so it can conform to gov't requirements (i.e., police departments). As long as they still make the ones without the safeties then I'm all for it.
