I'm guessing it was a squib.

takeing you time with reloads is VERY VERY important
1. dont buy ANY reloads ( the link said they were WWB but like he said he has doubts and so do I, but hey it happens with factory ammo too)
2. dont use a max load unless you NEED a max load that way a mistake with some extra powder you wont be way over pressure
3. use a low density powder(i think thats what you call it when a givin powder takes up more volume then others with the same amount of power) that with a regular load will fill the case over half full so if you do get a double load it will over flow and you will obviously know

4. WEAR SHOOTING GLASSES and allways try to either shoot with someone or somewhere that help is really close i.e. a shooting range
What does WWB mean? **EDIT** Sorry Just googled it. Is this a common problem with these rounds?

No. This is the first Kaboom with any round through an xd that I have seen a report of. Winchester White box are standard pressure, and pretty conservative on the pressures even within the standard range. This would have to have been a double charged WWB(which I think is probably extremely rare, if it has ever happened) or a different round mistakenly identified as a WWB. Again, I'd guess it was overcharged or the gun was damaged previous to this.

I have shot 10,000 plus WWB rounds through all sorts of pistols and nevr had one issue. I don't belive for a second that this was what he was shooting. Unless he had a squib, but i have never heard of one of those with WWB either.

Looks like a .40 from the shot down the barrel.

Thats the first XD KB that I have found, or seen. We just did a write up on the most common causes, particularly with the Glock 22, and others on another fourum.

Something as simple as excesive bullet setback could have caused it...even with WWB ammo. If it was indeed a .40, that is what I would think, or bet on if I was a betting man. The .40 is already loaded to max SAMMI pressures and if the bullet was setback a bit, say, from dropping the round, or, rechambering the round over and over a few times it could cause a KB.
If that turns out to be a squib, then that should say something for the barrels, as you can expect even on a light squib, say, primer only firing, the bullet making its way about an inch or more from the chamber...and the barrels not split that far...or at least not in the pics...from what I can see.

Either way...thats the first one Ive seen. Knew it was coming, for whatever reason, but thats interesting to say the least.
