I have the SC 40 and I can say it has alot less recoil than my FEG 380. So I would say don't be afraid of the SC if it is what YOU want, that being said since you said you already have a SC I would give one of the larger XDs a try. I think my next XD is going to be a 40 Tac.

If you're not planning on using it for concealed carry then I would go with the full size. Like others have said you'll find more parts to turn it into a pure pleasure shooter with. I had the same dilemma when I bought mine and decided on the full size. It's more of an all around gun to me whereas the SC fits a specific niche. I think you'll appreciate the longer sight radius.

One other thought.....I'm not positive on this so others can tell you if I'm right or wrong.... but if he bought a 9mm SC barrel and some 9mm SC mags couldn't he shoot 9mm out of his .40.... might be a cheaper route but like I said I don't know if you can do that or not.

Unfortunately, I only have the xd9 service. I agree with Modificationvt, since you already have a sc why not give the full size a try. Good luck choosing, Im sure you'll be happy either way.

I don't think an OEM 9mm barrel will work but Bar Sto makes a conversion barrel to go from 40 to 9. My XD is already a 9 but I just bought a Bar Sto conversion barrel for my 40 Sig P229. Going to the range tomorrow to test it out for the first time. I wouldn't recommend a conversion barrel for personal protection but good for throwing money down range.

Never thought about a conversion kit. My husband did that to one of his Glocks and likes it. I just prefer the grip on the XD to the Glock fits my hand better or I would just go with a 19. Have to research that one.

Ive been having the same dilemma. I have like 5 days to make up my mind before I buy. (ive already decided its win-win and eventually i'll end up getting the other) I recently decided on a 9 instead of 40, but I can't decide if I want SC, C, or service. Whats the difference in SC and C anyway?

The SC is a 3" barrel and the C has a 4" barrel.

My next question would be difference in C and Tactical? Grip size?

I'm not sure what you mean by C. You said you decided on the 9mm. In that caliber you can get a SC which is 3in with approximately a 2 - 2.5 finger grip; a service which is 4" with a full grip; or a tactical which is 5" with a full grip. The SC also comes with an extension sleeve allowing you to have a full size grip on the 3" gun if you use a standard mag. The C I think you're referring to is the Compact which is only available in .45. That grip will fit all 3 of your grip fingers very tightly depending on your hand size and comes with the same type of extension sleeve.
