10 rounds in 40 SC

Would keeping 10 rounds in the 9 round 40 sc mag damage the spring? (as a spare b/u mag) it works fine at the range- no problems loading the mag on a closed action but I don't know if keeping one that way will cause problems

Probably won't cause any damage, but I wouldn't do it.
Why? Because it was designed to hold 9, not 10. If you want to have a magazine with 10 rds, get a 12 rounder with the grip sleeve on it and fill it with 10.

If you want ten rounds, put one in the chamber and fill the mag to 9.

Same thoughts as the first two replies. Use it as it was designed.

my question was why not. I had noticed that I had inadvertantly loaded 10 rounds using the mag loader, I tested the mag out at the range and it worked fine.

I was wondering the reason it was listed as a 9 rnd mag. ie spring failure, damage to the pistol's mag retaining pin/lever etc.

Doesn't really matter, I just wanted to know why not.

After I put the Peirce Grip extension on mine 10 fit very easy and that's what I carry now. Been like this for quite awhile and no problems yet. I do keep an eye on it though.
