Ok, first let me start off saying that its been awhile since I've been on here mainly due to my new interest in AR's and my hours spent on arfcom. Now, down to business.
Ive owned my XD9 Tactical since January of 2007, so a little bit over a year now and it has a round count of around 3500 rounds. Ive shot everything including wolf, monarch, S&B, UMC, and WWB. After the initial cleaning it got right of the case when it was new, I let it go about 700 round without cleaning, then after that I cleaned it after every range session until the last 800 or so rounds, so that could very well be a cause. I visited the ASC range in Houston this past week and shot through 200 rounds of WWB value pack. On the first hundred round pack I had two FTE's. The first time it happened the gun jammed and I immediately did the typical TAP, RACK, BOOM but no Boom. After looking, the extractor had slipped of the fired casing that was in the chamber and the gun stove piped. After pushing out the casing with my cleaning rod, I examined it and it looked slightly bulged, so I figured that it was a bad round that over expanded in the chamber and the extractor couldnt pull it out. So after clearing that FTE, I proceeded to shoot the rest of my first value pack, and on the last mag (a different one by the way) I had another FTE. Same exact thing as the first. Again, I pushed out the fired casing with my cleaning rod, but this casing had no signs of bulge, but there was a gouge on the rim where the extractor had ripped off. This gun has never even so much as given me a hickup before that day. I decided to pull out some CLP and my cleaning toothbrush and scrub the extractor before shooting the second box of WWB. I had zero problems on that last box, so maybe that did something. I did, however, have weak ejections about 1000 rounds into the gun and cleaned to extractor and it started flinging brass like a champ. But during this session it was ejecting brass plenty strong except for those two FTE's. So, I ask you XDtalk, should I contact Springfield and tell them whats up and hope that they dont hold my weapon for a lengthy period of time, or just give everything a good scrub and call it a day. I mean 2 FTE's out of 3500 rounds isnt bad percentage wise, but I never thought I would have a problem out of this beautiful piece of machinery. PS- Sorry but I dont have a camera to take detailed pics of the bad casing that I took back from the range with me that has the gouge on its rim. Sorry for the novel.

If the extractor isn't chipped and has good tension, you might want to try something other than WWB and see if the problem is still there. WWB has had very poor QC as of late and there have been many WWB ammo related malfunctions reported.

Extractor is still in good shape, no chips and has plenty of tension, at least from what I can tell. Dont have any kind of gauges or tools. Ive thought specifically blaming the ammo, but all Ive shot recently has been WWB and this box is the only one that has done it.
Speaking of ammo manufacturers QC, I should start a thread about remington heavy dove, but this isnt a shotgun forum.

Looks to me like a ammo related problem.
I had the same problem with Lead Round Nose Seller & Bellot bullets (no metal jacket) and had quite a few FTE's with them. Guess what? Never had any of those with german GECO ammo. |

I've only had two problems with the XD's. One FTE with the 45 service and one FTE with the 9sc. Both times I was shooting WWB's.

I have seen three separate XDs have a single FTE each in the past year (including one of mine). These were an XD9 Tactical, an XD9 Service, and an XD40 Tactical. In all three, the slide was locked forward and just slightly out of battery.
In each circumstance, the round was so stuck in the chamber that it took substantial force to unstick the slide and extract the round. To clear the round, I had to grasp the top of the slide hard, and then use my shooting hand to slam it into the back of the grip to push the frame forward while holding the slide in place. The ammo was different for each gun. It was WWB (XD9 Service), Federal HST (XD40 Tactical), and commercial reloads (XD9 Tactical). All of these guns have run flawlessly otherwise, but it concerns me that these guns have locked up this badly. |

I had some extraction problems with WWB in the middle of a match. Pissed me off. I swapped ammo to my reloads and the problem went away.

I've been having this problem for awhile. WWB, Blazer, reloads, you name it, it's had a FTE every 150-225 rounds. I just sent it to Springfield last week so hopefully they can remedy it...Good luck with yours..
