striker retainer pin climbing out of the slide on its own
Had my XD9 for 11 days now. The striker retainer pin is coming up and out of the slide. I sent Megan an email. Has anyone else ever had this problem? My local range said they have never seen anything like this happen.
How good is SA about quick turnaround on repairs? This weapon is my last line of defense in my job, I hate to be without it for long. |

Just an informal opinion, but apparently it can happen.... The pin helps to catch the striker when dry firing. Otherwise, it's just a strange hole in the slide If your pin is a little undersized, or the hole a little oversized, it can happen. I suppose you could also damage the pin by whacking it with the wrong punch (you're supposed to use a special tool for roll pins), but I think this one's too long to damage in this sense. Can't speak for the turnaround, and my information is that Springfield will want to see the gun rather than send you a replacement pin, but it also appears to be non-critical, so a little Loctite might be sufficient. Let's see who else chimes in, but don't panic. Meantime, run, do not walk, and grab another XD. Kinda like Lay's Potato Chips.... (I confess.... I've got four 1911's, two of which aren't a heck of a lot larger than an XD-9 SC. But it's not a BUG. It's my "grubbies" gun for around the house, and I've got other non-Springers that could fill in. This one's for my daughter.) Regards,

Is this a reapir/maintenance thing I can do easily myself? To replace the roll pin, do I need to take the striker assembly apart? Do I just pop the pin out of the slide and pop a new one in?
I am certain there is a link somewhere here that explins this, but I have not been able to find one searching for "roll pin" yet. Thanks again. |

Errr.... is there a reference site or a link to somewhere that shows me how to do this? I have no clue how to take this thing apart, and I am leery of doing so without proper knowledge of the process. |

Thanks, that helps a lot. My pin looks to be unbroken (though I have not removed it yet to check fully), can I get away with just reseating the existing pin by tapping it back into place? Or should I just go ahead and assume that the only reason it is coming up is because it needs replacing?
I have done a few dry fire drills and put probably 700 rounds through it so far. Is there a chance It is not broken, just not fully in place? Will I harm anything by attempting to reseat it instead of replacing it? I am supposed to be at the range tommorow, and would love to be able to just reseat it tonight; but not at the expense of harming the weapon. I love this gun, I shoot much better with it than I did the glock (ergonomics I am sure), and would hate to harm it. |

Reseat it, it's fine.
The only times that you will need to replace it is if, 1 - Obviously if it's broken, or 2 - You removed it for cleaning purposes. It's not a good idea to re-use a roll pin once it's been removed. But, if it's just popped up a bit, no big deal just knock it back down.
