Just gently push it back in with whatever's handy. If the pin is undersized (or the hole is to big) it's going to drop in a little quickly, and that may mean that it'll come out again.... Otherwise, you'll need to give it a bit of pressure.

(If it's all the way out, you will need to be careful to get it through the slot in the striker - the assembly instructions referenced earlier should help.)

IMHO, a roll pin needs special care when being removed. It's not that fragile when being inserted unless it's a very tight fit. The trick is to avoid collapsing the pin.

Regards,

Thanks once more!

It is only sticking up about 3.5mm. I will see what I have around to push it back in with. It should be about 1mm under flush once placed all the way in, correct?

That is about right. If you have an allen wrench close to the right size it will do in pinch.

i reuse mine all the time on both my xd's (even though i have extras) and i rounded a nail to use as my punch and mine isnt loose at all. just make sure you remove it from the bottom.

well i just took mine out and put it back in with the slide compleatly assembled barrel and all. the only thing you need to do is pull the striker back a little bit so its not blocking the hole. but it is WAY EASIER then dealing with takeing the slide completely apart. slide dissasembly and reassembly is at best a 15 min job (if everything goes good) for the average person. but the fist time will take longer.

i took my pin out and put it back in in under a min.

oh and so you dont mess up your finish i use a long screw driver with a plastic handle as my hammer. i personally dont bother putting mine down under the slide mine just sits flush. and i have shot thousands of rounds and it has never budged

The Knight's got it right....

If you can move it more or less by hand (i.e., almost no effort), I'd think about replacing the pin and/or checking the size of the hole. A roll pin is supposed to be solid enough to pin something into something else, and also capable of holding itself into it's hole, while still being fairly easy to remove if necessary.

A little bit of Loctite (I forget which one - red, I think) probably would be acceptable. Just don't forget that you may want to remove it again.

I still have to do it (I want to clean the extractor), but once you get into those instructions referenced above, it starts to look fairly simple. (First, I have to un-chicken enough to take apart one of two Para LDA's....)

Regards,

be careful with the loctite not to put too much because that hole goes right to the firing pin channel and locktite in there just sounds like a BAD IDEA.

but since yours is moveing deffinitly replace it (or locktite) but if it holds in there why not use the same one. that way when one does break ill still have my backups. if i replaced it every time i took it apart i would have ran out along time ago.(i strip my guns all the way down WAY WAY more often then needed. i just enjoy doing it.)

but if you do take the slide apart i highly recomend doing it the first time in a clear garbage bag or other bag of some sort. it is harder to work in a bag thats why i use the garbage bag so i can stick my head in there also (and no i m no where close to sufficating). this way if a spring or part shoots off then its in the bag and saves you lots of time looking for a part that you might not even know what exactly flew off. looking for a part that you dont know what it looks like is such a pain! the first time i took my xd apart the firing pin spring and cocking indicator and cocking indicator guide flew off and took me about an hour to find it

You guys all rock. Thanks a ton. It is far too tight to move by hand, so I will just reseat it tonite and shoot tommorow. I will watch it closely every 50 rounds I put down it, and then use that as a basis for whether or not to replace the pin.

Thanks again, it is great to have a place like this with informed folks willing to help with newbie questions.

Edit: Used a small allan wrench and a small mallet to tap it into place. After 50 dry fires, no movement, maybe it was not seated properly at manufacturing/assembly? Will go fire live tommorow and see if it moves, I am hoping this will be enough.
