Well, I can honestly say that out of the box, my SC was the best grouping XD I have.

Here's the deal...

Are you grouping the rounds or are they randomly scattered?

Are you maintaining the same point of aim or are you chasing rounds?

Are you maintaining the same sight picture or are you lining the sights up differently?

Why do ask this???

Because adjusting sights is easy, fixing shooter error is the hard part.

If the rounds are grouping but are in a diffent spot, that's and easy fix. Either bump the rear sight left or right or get a higher or lower front sight post.

They don't zero the sights at the factory. They put them in so they are centered between the alignment marks on the slide and that's it. The barrel is not match grade and there is some play.

Biggest thing is.........DON'T SWEAT THE 10 RING!!!!

It's unrealistic for a sub-compact pistol. Use a man size target, 3-10 yards and hit the target.......FAST.

ok guys,
first off I'm not giving up on this gun ... I did get a question answered though,, factory sights and not a match grade barrel might be the combo here.
I'm going back right now and put another few rounds through the gun. I have a membership at the range which is around th block from my business.
I usually shoot 100 rounds once a week, When its to cold or too hot I dont go, Their heat and air conditioning stinks,,,
I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes.
Jack

First time I have had a new gun not shoot too accurate. Especially at 15 feet. The gun did kinda group at 10 oclock, but not impressive.
I really am not impressed with the sights, and am thinking of having new ones installed.
I am worried about the gun shooting to point of aim. I really don't know what to think about the xd.
I would like to get your opinions ?
Jack
I was the same way, felt the same, now after more than a thousand rounds, and an equal or more dry fires, I want to marry my XD. Every time I go to the range and somebody says, "Could I shoot your gun", I hesitate. It's like giving him permission to try out my wife! I will usually allow them to, after I think about it for a second or two, then they want to shoot another magazine. That's when I tell them "She's mine, go buy their own!"

It gets sweeter with time and action. I might have the slack removed from the trigger after a while (like getting sewn after a birth) but I still love my XD!

dang i offer to let people shoot my gun after i watch them a little while and make sure they arnt retarded. and most of the time i get to try their gun. but then again when i go the the range i tend to be pretty social and strat talking to someone and ask about their guns then they ask and i will offer to let them shoot it. i want to show as many people "the light" as i can. and seeing that same person at the range a month or so later with an xd is just awsome!

your quote "It gets sweeter with time and action. I might have the slack removed from the trigger after a while (like getting sewn after a birth) but I still love my XD!" "

so you mention you still love your xd even though it hasnt been sewn up after birth but you didnt mention anything about your wife after that lol ha ha im just kidding

Hey Gang,
Back from the range, I did a sitting sandbag rest at 15 feet. 10 shots.. All ten shots where 2 inches high and 2 inches left at about 10 o'clock.
All ten shots grouped into approximately 1 inch. not a bad grouping, just not where I wanted it.
I shot factory pmc loads. Better than the reloads I get.

I shot 10 more freehand at 7 feet. Couldnt use sandbags, the target was too close, I would shoot the ceiling if I did,
so I was about 1 inch high and 1 inch to the left and the group was about 1 1/2 inches.

Is there a break in period for the sights/gun to shoot better ?
all comments welcomed
Jack

I shot my XD40sc today at the range and Im still hitting 2-3" low and to the left. Total Ive shot about 600 rnds through it. Im still convinced its my error as this is my first DA type pistol. Im sure after another 500-600 rnds Ill be shooting much better.

from my experience, when it comes to using compact and sub-compact handguns, they tend to recoil a bit more than standard size pistol. using the correct grip, stance and trigger control will solve much of your problem. by the way, also PRACTICE, PRACTICE, AND A LOT MORE PRACTICE

I can read. You can't comprehend.

The first time I took my 9sc to the range, I put 250 rounds through it from the 25yard line at a silhouette. I wasn't shooting for groups, which was good, cause the grouping sucked. However 230 rounds struck in the critical areas. This weekend I'm back out and do some groups from 10 yards.

Should be interesting since I now have a Pachmyr grip sleeve and Pearce mag extenders. Didn't have those the first time.
