I carry a gun for.........
I refuse to be a Victim. To protect myself, My family, My friends, Innocent bystanders. I cannot run very fast. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I carry because its a crazy world and bad things happen all the time. I also carry as required when I work. When I am not working and its practical I carry because I like to keep things where they are supposed to be. At work I wear it so that is were its supposed to be, so why not keep it there all the time. I also have a family and have seen enough in the world to know that there are people who would hurt them if they could.

I've read every word in every post of this thread and I have a very similar reason to be getting my CCW permit.
I've almost always lived in upper middle class neighborhoods and don't worry so much about that aspect because my family wouldn't ever live anywhere they didn't feel safe but even with that being said, there is always potential for breakins anywhere. We've been robbed at a previous house my family lived in, not while we were home luckily but it we could have been. My family has been threatened when we lived in Hawaii because the locals didn't like white people and the fact we had a fairly sizable property upset them. Most of all though, there was one experience which personally happened to me one night that almost left me ending the life of one or more individuals. As someone said in a previous post to Delija along the lines of "Why go into areas you aren't familiar with?", sometimes you don't exactly have the option. I used to be on an NHRA race team in Texas and one night myself and my friend Gary were driving back from Ennis when his Corvette was having issues so we pulled off onto the nearest exit and over to the the closest gas station. The two of us noticed it was a bit of a grim neighborhood but didn't think much of it until we got out of a car and a guy standing nearby had said "are you lost?". Well, I quickly replied that we weren't even though I didn't have any idea what part of town we were in besides being in a southeastern part of Dallas somewhere. Well, it turns out we were in a town called Oak Cliff, which anyone who knows the area will tell you that it's not exactly a place white people will go to or are terribly welcome for that matter (and as far as the obligatory disclaimer goes; i do not consider myself a racist by any means). So we're sitting at the gas station and up comes about 5 or 6 African Americans and they were talking to us, and started getting closer and closer and around the corvette we were next to and then the fun began. Each of them were asking us if we could spare some change, which we told them we couldn't and then they kept asking us over, and over, and over again, each time getting more and more aggressive. I would give it less than a minute before I would have gone inside the car to pull the pistol out of the back compartment when thankfully a DPS officer pulled up and everyone scrammed rather quickly. You always hear people say "I don't think I could ever shoot someone, even if I had to because I wouldn't want to take a life" but in reality, that's not the case, at least not for me. The entire time during this situation, I was thinking to myself that I may very well have to pull the pistol out and if it comes to that, I'll shoot anyone who is taking the situation to that level as needed. And honestly, that's exactly what I would have done if I had to that night. I committed myself to the fact that if I had to pull and point the pistol at someone, there would be a bullet inside of them soon thereafter, no hesitation. So why would I get a CCW? Because you never know when you're in a situation like that. I have a corvette myself, and am going to be getting another car soon which will be equally as sporty/eye-catching and I'm not going to risk being broke down in a bad neighbourhood where I could be mugged or worse without having protection. Do I feel like I have to have a pistol on me at all times, including going to the grocery store or out to dinner? No, but there may very well be times that I might be in an area where I could be forced to use a gun. Just my $.02

you know what.. I am going back to take my previous post down, I don't want to make light of that piece of shiite called the Bind Torture 'nozzle.
I carry because someday I hope to have the opportunity to save the taxpayers alot of money and lighten the load of the prison system by eliminating somebody who has admitted and proven that he has taken the life of any human being. I carry because anybody such as that who may target myself or my family with absolutely no regard for life, will pay dearly for making that mistake. Respectfully, Todd J. Coughlin |

I carry for a very simple reasons.
1. The headline in the papers today "845 murdered since the start of the Year", (island population of 2.7mil) 2. 80% of all murders are via guns, where the 75% of the killers are between 15 - 26 3. I'll be damned if I'm going to let a misguided kid, who sees no value to life bring harm to my family or I. 4. So I am always ready! Me, my XD, and my 50 hollows. In order to survive, an awareness state of RED is prudent.

theanswriz, you made the comment you almost went into the car to retrieve your weapon but a DPS officer showed up. 2 questions for you. Do you really believe you would have had time to obtain the gun in time to prevent these 5-6 individuals who were getting both closer and more aggressive, from hurting you? Why weren't you carrying it on you?
I'm not asking because I'm trying to flame you, just to wonder what your mindset was at the time of the incident. Thank you. theanswriz wrote: "I don't think I could ever shoot someone, even if I had to because I wouldn't want to take a life." People that think like that are sheeple in my mind. I cannot even fathom someone believing something as way out as that. Why would you not want to save your own life or your loved ones? I have a sister-in-law who told me this in a phone conversation earlier this year and was dumbfounded to hear it. |

I see your point though, it is entirely possible they would have noticed me drawing the weapon and tried something but in reality, it was nearly my only option at the time. Cheers
