Again it is probably just unburned powder. This can be very common with some powders and short barreled guns.

It's unburned powder

I get the same thing when I'm shooting the cheap Wal-mart Winchester ammo. I thought the same thing until I realized that it was just unburned powder.

Maybe that's it.

I always get this after firing WWB. It is not that hard to remove, as long as you do not over oil your gun before using the ammo. Too much oil and it gunks this stuff into little white/yellow balls. Also, yellow residue on fingers is often from firing a gun that had too much breakfree CLP left in the gun in combination with WWB.

I get the yellow/green fingers too after a firing range session - 200- 300 rounds using a mix of PMC and WWB. Haven't noticed any sandy looking stuff or brass flakes though. Ejector stuck out could be from the flakes, sounds like it's ok after a cleaning. Let us know if you have a reoccurrance of this behavior!

Ive put 450 rounds through my XD45 and I havent even had it a week yet, with 200 more going in her tomorrow. No flakes for me at all. Also, like a previous poster said, it could be from dropping a round in the chamber manually then letting the slide go, which snaps the extractor over the butt of the cartidge.

p.s. I would completely disasemble it before you fire it again though to clean it and to make sure there is no other damage

I plead guilty to over oiling it. I bought it for my wife but the slide was so tight she couldn't even pull it back. I got pretty liberal with the oil on it.

Get a lighter recoil spring.

The same thing happened to me, except my fingers didn't turn yellow or green after I was finished shooting. I got the little flakes and chunks of yellow stuff though.

I believe I used WWB 147gr JHP towards the end of that range trip to try it out as self-defense ammunition and I liked the way it grouped.
