Is it safe to use brake cleaner/gunscrubber on an XD?
Is it safe to use non-chlorinated brake cleaner/gunscrubber on an XD polymer frame?

I bought the synthetic safe gunscrubber, I'm not sure about the others.

I've been using electrical contact cleaner that is safe on plastics. Only a few bucks a can. Lasts a long time. A couple shots in the trigger group followed by a quick blast of compressed air and the lower is finished.
Do pretty much the same routine on the slide assembly. Follow that with some CLP and reassemble. I wouldn't use brake cleaner unless it specifically said "plastic safe" on the can. Take care, Dave |

I already used it and got some on the frame today. Doesn't seem to have done anything, but afterwards I got to wondering. I didn't hose down the frame or anything, just got a little on there when I was spraying the frame rails. It was non-chlorinated. I don't think I'll do it again though.

Would STRONGLY discourage you from getting it on the plastic of the gun. For the parts that you can completely pull off and treat separately (barrel, slide--but watch out for sights), you should be ok.

I use it all the time (on the metal parts) with absolutely no trouble at all.
The plastic parts are dishwasher safe. (kidding about the dishwasher) |
