XD resist heat?

Considering I may have to leave my new XD9SC in the car sometimes during the Summer. Does anybody know if high heat (like 90 + being inside of a car) will damage the polymer any?

I have no verifiable data but I would bet that it would be perfectly fine... You can always e-mail XD customer service and I am sure they could provide you with a certain answer...

I usually don't take mine if I can't carry it out of the car. I'd hate to have my vehicle broke into & my XD stolen while I was away.

Not trying to bust your chops (OK, maybe a little) but do you honestly believe that the plastic that you dash and almost every other component of the inside of your car are more resilient and durable than a gun frame? Are you also worried about a holster scratching the finish? I think you're being a little overprotective of a gun. It's not a baby or a pet.

You do realize that the XD in XD stands for Xtreme Duty? The XD's are combat/tactical grade weapons.

So, what do you think the answer to your question is?

I suspect the polymer will get far hotter when you're firing than when it's sitting out in your car.

I only know data on glocks, but I suspect the XD is as good if not better. Glocks have Nylon 6.6-based frames, and the melting point is ~500F.

I've heard that a car can get up to 160F or so during summer...

Good luck,
David

Now come on guys, don't hate him for asking the question! I believe its a fairly valid question. Help the poor guy out. I actually researched this question when I bought my XD. No official word from Springfield Armory, but XDTalk members will all tell you it will be just fine. I have left my XD in the car (granted it wasn't direct sunlight obviously) for a few weeks now during the time I am at work and its okay so far.

Well, there have been numerous reports of CTAC holster clips melting inside of cars. I would have guessed that they were heat resistant. I figured I'd rather ask than just assume. There was no heat test during the torture test that I read about. I think it's a legit question.

I'm not treating it like a pet and I couldn't care less if it's scratched. I was thinking about function.

PS - XD staning for extreme duty is totally meaningless. That is simply marketing. Every salesman of every item available in the world will tell you whatever you are buying is great (extreme somethinerother or some other way of putting it).

See my post above, I was not kidding/joking/making fun, that is actual data. An XD should not melt in a car. Put in an oven with the broiler on might be a different story.
