XD40 mag hard to click in when full?

Usually when I go shooting I don't usually fully load clips, don't ask me why... But, when there is an almost full magazine (10-12 rounds) I find it harder to click the magazine into the gun (almost have to force it in), and the magazine tends to hang out of the bottom farther... The whole fit in general feels to tight for some reason. Is this normal for full loaded mags?

Yes, this is normal. After shooting it for awhile it will loosen up some. Essentially you have a new gun that will require some breaking in.

I always have the slide locked back when I insert the mag and then just drop the slide release to load the first round. Because when the slide is locked back the mag inserts like butter.

It's going to be like that if the slide is forward.

Think about it. How hard is it to load the last couple rounds into the mag? With the slide forward, when you insert the mag you are having to put pressure on the top round to get the mag fully seated.

Most firearms instructors say, "Briskly Seat the magazine."

Just don't get into the habit of slamming the mag home with the slide open - your feed lips can damage (read: break) the ejector. Not likely, but something to think about.

Your feed lips shouldn't be contacting the ejector. If they are, something's wrong.

Normal. I've probably tens of thousands of rounds through my XD40. I still have magazines that feel 'tight'. I have several firearms like that. I just use a little slap with the palm.
