Adjusting (or changing) sights on XD9
Hi group;
As a fairly new XD9 user, I have a bit of a problem. Since all of us together are sure to be smarter than me alone, hopefully someone can come up with some help here. My XD9 is accurate at 25' (mostly 8's, 9's some 10's), shoots somewhat low and right @ 50' (mostly outer ring) and basically totally misses the paper way low & way right @ 75' (taped 4 targets together and was hitting the 7 ring on the lower right target while sight picture was centered on upper left target). I understand I can adjust for windage with a brass punch & hammer (shudder to take a hammer to the piece!), but short of filing down the front sight blade, can anything else be done? Any help gratefully appreciated.

Tortminder, xdanthony asks this question for a legitimate reason; not to put you off. Your answer will give us insight as to what might be the problem.

In all honesty, the XD can take a bit of getting used to. before you adjust the sights, have someone else also shoot it.
If your ready to adjust them, consider that they DO make adjustable sights. Want to do it yourself? A brass punch and a hammer MIGHT not budge them. XD sights normaly require a sight tool and I have known some that had to be MILLED out of the slide for replacement. I suggest using a REPUTABLE smith to adjust them properly. Pistol-Gear sells a sight tool I THINK.

Okay next question: which is your dominate eye?
I for over 50 years have been right handed right eye dominate, suddenly I started missing everything to the right. By chance I was showing someone how to check for dominate eye and was amazed to find that I was now left eye dominate. I checked with my ophthalmologist and this is not uncommon. Started shooting to allow for the change and everything is back to where it was. Interesting this does not have as much effect with long guns and no change with scoped guns. Anyway if you are right handed and left eye dominate your shots will be thrown to the right.

[quote=rgeliske;981535]Okay next question: which is your dominate eye?
Right eye dominant, right handed shooter. I have had the top gun in our club shoot the piece and he shoots it low-right @75' (dead on @ 25'). Looks like a trip tothe smith is in store. regards,

It's easy to adjust for left and right it's the up and down that will be hard if you can't adjust your loads.

Adjusting XD9 sights
Thanks for the replies. I appreciate all the support. I have experimented further and had others try the piece with similar results... deadly accurate up to about 30-35' low and right after that. Since I expect to use the unit for both bullseye competition and home security, I gues a trip to the smith is the only answer (a smart person knows theor limitations, and an ameteur gunsmith ain't one of my talents).
Thanks again,
