XDsc .40 slide stop holds back prematurely
I have an XDsc .40 S&W. When using the 12 round magazine it occationally locks the slide back while there are still rounds in the magazine. Normally around 5. I have no problem what-so-ever with the 9 round magazines. Could this be a magazine issue or a problem with the slide stop lever? Has this issue been talked about on this forum before?
My XDsc works perfectly beyond this. Anyone else had this issue?

It is a magazine issue. I had a one magazine out of 5 that would do that every so often. Compare the lips on the magazines, one may need some adjusting.

Could be your grip also. I have a friend that does it on mine all the time yet it never happens to me. Check and see where your right thumb rest on the pistol when you are firing. Mine tends to keep the slide lock from engaging when the mag is empty because I rest my thumb on the top of it.

Thanks for the quick feedback!
Gentlemen:
Thanks for the input. I’m going to have to look at how I hold the grip, and I hope I haven’t damaged the magazine lips. Thanks for the link for the site dealing with this. It was very helpful. I called SA and they gave me a return number so they can look at it themselves. Could be a round lightly pushing up the slide stop lever as described. We’ll see. Thanks for you help!

It does sound like a potential mag problem as mentioned but I also had the slide lock problem on my XD9SC due to my thumb hitting the slide lock while firing as mentioned too.
I had to change the location of my thumb on the subcompact then it never happened again.

I had this problem as well, I had to adjust my grip. My thumb (I use the straight thumbs grip with the right hand thumb floating above the left) I am fairly sure that my right hand thumb was touching the slide lock lever during the cycle, and occasionally locking the slide while there were still rounds in the mag. I haven't seen it again in several hundred rounds since I adjusted the position of my thumb.

Range report
Well, after reading everyones comments I figured I needed to head back to the range and put another 100 rounds through my XDsc .40 while being very careful with where my thumb was resting. As in, off the slide lock. No premature slide lock backs this time. I think I need to put a few more rounds through it to make sure it is just "used/operator errors" before I send it back to SA.
