Other alternatives
Hey there everyone,
Being from Mass, it looks as if it'll be impossible for me to get this gun right now. Yes, this is heartbreaking to me too. Even though you all swear by your XD, does anyone have any other recommendations on .40 cal service/full sized pistols? Thanks a lot! |

Sig, HK, Glock. Are those allowed there?

You didn't say exactly why it was impossible to get the XD at this point in time so that makes it kind of hard to offer alternatives when you didn't say what the constraint was.
That being said, you can't go wrong with a Glock. There are several other good alternatives to the XD on the market in .40 S&W. Bottom line, need more info to better provide constructive input. |

Umm...HK i know isn't allowed. Pre-1998 glocks are allowed, and all sigs were allowed. I have been looking at a Sig P226 and really like it. The gun store owner says it hasn't had many rounds through it, as this seems right since the firing mechanism is still blued. $595 is a little steep though.
Also, I can't get an XD because they aren't legal in Massachusetts. |

I would recommend moving to a non-communist state. If that is not an option, the above mentioned firearms are a wonderful choice.

Ha ha, if only that were an option. Yeah we don't have much of a choice around here. HK's, Post-98 glocks, Springfields, Kimbers, and select Berettas are illrhsl yo oen got handguns. So I guess you can say for a .40 cal I'm limited to Smith and Wesson, Sig, para ordinance, and beretta.

Whats up with Mass.? Why can't you get an XD? Explain what the laws on this are for me cause I don't get it.

I love my Sig P229 chambered in 40. I think its classified as a compact though. Its my bedside gun and my fav to shoot at the range. I bought the XD due to a curiosity in polymer pistols and that I'm waiting for my CHL and I wanted something lighter to carry and that didn't have a SA/DA trigger. Actually come to think about it, I've never fired it in DA mode. For home defense its second nature to take the extra 4 nanoseconds to cock the hammer but would prefer something I can just grab and fire for concealed carrying. I've heard good things about the 226 but have never fired one.

Mass just seems to have stricter gun laws. For some reason however, Springfield would probably comply...they just don't want to sell to MA because of these strict rules. It seems to me that they just don't want to jump through hoops for a small state like Mass. High-cap isn't legal in mass for some reason too. |
