Just shot the first 150 rounds through my XD-40 and it is shooting really low. When I aim at 6 o'clock they don't even hit the target. I have to aim pretty much at the "12 o'clock position" to hit anywhere near the bullseye. It shoots good as far as pattern/grouping and centers, but shots really low. I've shot an XD-9 and at 6'oclock aiming position, can hit the bullseye and have good grouping. THis is at 7 yards. at 15 yards, same thing, shoots really low, and at even hit the ground short of the target a few time shooting at the 6 o'clock position. It has the factory night sight installed and I am not a novice shooter. Just wondering if after I have a few of my friends shoot it, should I sent it back to Springfield? Thanks.

with my xd-40 i found it wont really shoot at 6'oclock until out to about 25 yards, any closer and i put the sight right on what i want to hit. but it sounds like you might be anticipating recoil a bit too

As you stated, try to let some one else shoot it and go from there.
When I got my first XD (XD9 service), I shot low and to the left. It just took a little practice and getting used to the XD trigger. Good luck , Bro..............

This is pretty normal for all handguns.

Are you sure that you are not limp wristing it or pushing with your strong hand at the same time you are squeezing the trigger. Those would be some causes.
I know when I aim at 12 I hit CM and is I aim CM I will hit at 6 and I have a set of Trijicon's on. I have a different shooting style than most, my pistol is canted at a 45° to the left. I was trained to shoot that way and it works. But if you are shooting 90° at the target what I list above may be your problem. Try to put it in a rest and shoot it again and see if it is the pistol or you.

Yea, wait till other people shoot it first. Have the folks at the range shoot it.

Next time you're at the range shoot 20 or 30 rounds and then dry fire and see what happens. I took a friend out to the range who has been shooting for a while but no one has ever given him shooting advice. He was hitting way low on the target and couldn't figure it out, I gave him 10 rounds and he fired it way low then told him to rack the slide aim and pull the trigger with an empty chamber and as soon as he pulled the trigger the muzzle dropped down about an inch he had no clue he was doing that.

Similar situation.
I was at my local range when a person came in with a Springfield 1911 and was shooting very low. Beautiful handgun with a laser sight but he had the laser turned off for practice. He was wondering why he was shooting like that and I asked him if his laser was sighted in. He said yes so I suggested he turn it on but ignore it while shooting. Right at his first trigger pull that laser dipped probably a foot or more below his point of aim. He was quite surprised and realized he was anticipating recoil... but had never seen it quite so clearly as then. I shot low and to the left with my XD .40 at first (I had not shot for a while) but after 400 rounds I've settled down my pull a bit and become more comfortable. Now I tend to shoot about 1" left of POA when I get tired... but otherwise have eliminated that. Good Luck! |
