New thumb safety

Good or bad? I am looking for a XD45 compact and wanted to know what others thought of the new safety?

Worst idea ever. The XD doesn't need one. SA should keep their thumb safeties and come out with a 45SC.

Last I saw the thumb safety isn't available on XD-45 Compacts. So the question is moot.

I think it is totally unnecessary. But what do I know anyways.

It's a GREAT idea. Personally, I love the lack of a thumb safety on Glocks and the current XDs. The thing is, I don't account for even 1% of XD sales. Adding an OPTIONAL thumb safety is a great idea because it can only do one thing: Increase sales. Many PDs and LE agencies require (or at least prefer) a gun with a thumb safety. That automatically puts the XD & glocks out of the running.

More sales = more accessories, more parts availability, lower prices on accessories & parts, etc. etc.

Sorry guys but the thumb safety (at least as I've seen it advertised as an OPTION) is a great idea. I won't be buying one but a lot of people will.

Is it optional or is now standard on new guns? This is the first I've heard of it and there website isn't really clear about it.

I would never buy one with a thumb safety I imagine SA wants to go after some Goverment contracts and a thumb safety is usually a requirment.

Fair enough. Good point.

I would let be a deciding factor in my purchase. If I got one with the thumb safety I probably wouldn't use it. But I can see why some folks would feel more "comfortable" with it.

I suspect the addition has to do with some bid requirements and therefore should increase sales of XD's to large agencies which ultimately is good for all XD'ers.
