First rounds from the XD

I broke my new XD40 in today with the first 76 rounds put through it by me. The 76th shot was just as smooth as the first I'm twice as happy about my purchase now.

What's the average lifespan for a handgun in the terms of number of rounds fired?

I've put just about 1000 rounds through my Service since I got it about 3 weeks ago and the trigger gets quite a bit better in my opinion. It started off good, but it's getting better and better. Great guns!

Break in is around 500 rounds.... Everything start to get worn in and smooth. You will notice a difference in the slide and trigger pull. have fun and shoot it.... Oh yeah clean it after the first 100 then after 200 rds. Basic clean... field strip and clean after 500 rds.
Have fun!!!

Yea after the first 76 I shot today I cleaned the heck out of it. A "field strip" is taking off the slide, taking out the barrel and spring, right? That's as far as I went and it's lookin mighty good.

Also I sort of notice that my slide jiggles left to right in the back of the gun ever so slightly. No problem, right?

The XD does get better with time. I can definitely tell a difference between my 8 month old service, and my brand new SC.

Congrats on your new gun. I compete with 2 different tactical xd's. Know that you own a heck of a awesome weapon. Its realiability, feel, ergonomics, right out of the box, you can't beat it for the price. I have fired many thousands of rounds and it will only get smoother and sweeter in its feel. Think how you appreciate it now and look back on it in a year, and you will have more appreciation and respect for it. Life guarding reliability. That is why I only shoot xd's.

nope, that play is normal. so when you drop it in the mud, dive in to get and turn to the BG it will still go bang
