Newbie questions
Bear with me while I ask a couple of easy newbie questions - but first of all, what does the "K" in DAK stand for ? I know the DAO is double action only, etc. Also, what is "double strike capability" in a pistol ?
Thank you, HBear |

Double strike capability is the ability to make the firing pin hit the same primer twice.

OK, I have never heard of this, could you explain a little further? Why would you want to hit the same primer twice? How is that even possible unless the first is a failure to fire? Or is that the whole idea? And if so, is that really an advantage?
just curious.

Its in case a round doesn't fire, you can just pull the trigger to strike the primer again, which could fire the round, might be faster than a drill to clear the malfunction. Most Double Action autos have this capability. The XD does not because the slide has to be cycled between each round to cock the sear. Same with most/all striker fired actions.
DAK is Double Action Kellerman. Named for its designer. Its a Sig action that has both a full and intermediate reset point. The initial trigger pull is half the weight of Sig's DAO trigger system, and if you only release the trigger halfway, it resets to the intermediate weight which is slightly harder. If you release it all the way, it resets back to the original light trigger pull.

I think the main utility of double strike is for rimfire applications.
