I personally feel that 4" is the max barrel length for comfortable concealment when worn strong-side IWB or OWB. I currently have a XD45 Service, but I plan on converting it to a Compact (grip-chop). The SC's are just soooo cute, but also just a little short in the grip for me. I'm also quite partial to the 45 acp.

I conceal carry my XD45 Service with and IWB holster and I also conceal a full size 1911 on occasion with a simple belt slide holster. I have never been 'made' and unless my wife sees me put the firearms on, she has no idea if I am packing or not so it is doable. I had to modify my dress style to carry the 1911. I use a jacket or untucked shirt that is a size larger than I usualy wear. I carry at about the 4:00 position with a foward cant.
Good Luck. |

I'm 5'10" 225lbs and I carried the XD-40 Service for almost a year before I picked up an XD-40 SC. I still carry the Service quite a bit. The grip tends to print a little more with the Service, but its not a huge deal if you pick the right clothing. The SC give you a little bit more wiggle room.

Carried my .45 service daily till I got the 9sc. No it's the 9sc that leaves the house with me. With warmer weather coming, the 9sc conceals better than the .45.

I carry my XD-9 Service model everywhere except work. I usually carry IWB at 4:00 O-clock with a untucked button shirt a size larger with an undershirt underneath to protect my skin. If I wear a windbreaker I carry in a OWB on my right hip or crossdraw at 10 oclock. If you change your wardrobe carrying a service model can be done relativly easy. Anytime I go somewhere with my brother, mother, friends when I get home and put my gun on the dining room table they say "I didnt even know you had that".
However at work I cannot carry it because I have to dress up with a shirt and tie/sportjacket and weapons would not be apprecitated in my office even though there is no policy against it (Liberals) and I wouldnt want to lose my job over it. I dont even talk about hunting at work. They would die if they knew I bought a rifle during my lunch hour LOL

In your Desantis holster, do you use the straight clip or the J clip with it when wearing it at 4:00? I have the same holster, and have gone back and forth.

I use the straight... haven't even played with the J clip yet. But I also don't usually tuck my shirts.
