Rusting pins? Can I add new ones???

The pins that show on the polymer frame are beginning to rust on my three week old xd40 sc (melonite finish). I am considering getting pins that won’t rust, possibly nickel etc. Where can I buy these at??? What finish??? Can I change them out myself???

It would be wonderful if someone could tell me just how to keep them from rusting, the ones from the factory. This has happened despite my good cleaning habits. Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you storing it in a safe where moisture might be high? If so, I would recommend putting a moisture prevention product in your safe.

I do store it in a safe, but am not sure if the moisture level is high or not. This might be an issue though. When you say moisture reducer, what are you refering to??? Do you have any suggestions on where I might buy this??? Thanks for the info. I will look into it.

This is what I have. The "crystals" inside turn pink when you need to recharge it, which is done by putting it in an oven @ 300 degrees for 3 hours. These will absorb the moisture in the safe.

A lot of pins are red, not from rust, they are just that color. I would also like to replace mine.

Mine seem to have been black at first then turned red. If it is true that they are red, how would you explain that they were originally black??

Call Springfield and let them know you need replacement pins because your's are rusted. The should replace them for free.

The pin up above the grip safety on my .40 service is a shiny reddish maroon color and has been that way as far as I know since I got it. It is that way on both sides. If you take a qtip and gun oil or cleaner to it does rust come off of it? If you take a look at the XDs in the picture thread you will notice alot of peoples are that way. I think its normal ?
