xd .40 grain bullet
Just got a .40 service model today. What grain bullet is best to use for just range shooting?

I think price matters most for this question. Cheaper is better for range use, For defensive use I use 180gr. but it all depends on what you shoot best.

The Cheapest ammo you can find that works well. Steer clear of Wolf to keep from breaking your extractor and ejector.

What ever is cheapest is probably your first criteria. But if price is the same then the heavier 180gr bullets are probably the better choice. 180 are the heaviest commonly loaded in 40S&W and will have a more comfortable recoil impulse. Lighter bullets tend to produce a snappier recoil and heavier bullets the recoil will feel more like a push. Most people find the heavy push more comfortable than the snap of the light bullets.
