Exclamation XD Barrel Finish wearing Out

My XD SC-9 barrel finish is wearing out after 400 rounds. Each time I clean the gun after the range, the more the finish is wearing out and the more the metal is visible.

Could it be the gun cleaner, or is that normal?

Normal. That is normal wear and tear from shooting and nothing to lose sleep over.

This is totaly normal, the barrel is only covered with a light bluing (not melonite) and the barrel has many wear points. Don't worry just keep shooting.

Have the barrel polished, and you'll never be able to tell.

I'm disappointed, the finish should hold better than that. I only had the gun for 2-3 weeks, and the finish is almost gone on the barrel.

The overall finish is as good as new, its only the barrel and other hidden places. BTW, My XD is bi tone.

Is it better to have it polished or chromed?

If it bothers you, just cold blue it and leave it in the safe. It'll never wear that way.

It's normal, as the others have said and will continue. It doesn't hurt anything.

You might have a hard time finding a handgun that has a blued barrel that doesn't do that eventually.

I had the same feeling, albeit a few more than 400 rounds, I polished up my block to a high gloss (almost chrome looking) and after racking it just ten times, I could see those little scars already. I have accepted this and put a less shinny, burnished, finish on it now. I figure that maybe it will better hold the gun grease and continue to function for many thousand rounds more as it is. If not, then so be it, I've enjoyed shooting the sweetheart for a little over two-thousand rounds and it has never mis-fired or failed to eject. I feel that I'll get another XD well before this one is worn out in ten years or so.

Would IonBonding the barrel make the slide wear out faster? Since ionbond is harder than melonite...
