I dont know what I'm doing.
I recently purchased sa xd Sub in .40. I have no experience with anything bigger than a 9mm. I love the gun except for the pain I have to indure over the next 48 hours after putting 50 rounds through it. It doesnt hut that day, But the following 2 days my hands swelled.
Does anyone have any advice? Shooting gloves? Lighter rounds? I was shooting winchester 165 grain FMJ. Do lighter Gr bullets lesson ths banejarring snap? Is there a conversion to a 9mm for this gun? Maybe I'm just not ready for anything bigger. Is my Grip to firm? The gun feels as if its tryong to jump from my hand so I'm gripping hard to hold onto it. I love the gun and wouldn't hesitate to use in self defense.but, I am definatly hesitating putting another 50 rounds through it. Thank you in advance for you opinions. |

grip
My groupings are okay by my standards. I'm going aout to the range on SAturday. I do seem to be gripping hard but that is because comared to other guns this on seems to want to jump or spin out of my hand. I'm sure that its just a training issue.
Thanks -Also Jeff |

You really might be better off with the XD9SC. The .40 has a very snappy recoil that can wear you out. I routinely shoot 9mm, .40, and .45 and each caliber has its merits, but in the long run you will be happier with the one that is comfortable to shoot.

I have the sub 40, and it can be a bear to put lots of rounds through. Probably need some grip adjustment though.
If Kermee gets the shootersvideos site back up the grip video from Springer Precision on there shoes a great example and how to grip which ends up transferring most of the recoil into your left hand anyway. I know that when I squeeze to hard, I do get a sore hand, plus my aim gets more shaky. The Combat Handgun Grip This article has been posted before here, and was very helpful to me in learning to eliminate much of the muzzle flip, and most of the recoil discomfort on the XD40 Sub. Is the 45 compact 4 inch better? Sure, but I think you should look at your grip before giving up on the 40, I found the difference in recoil between my sub 40 and a buddy's service 9mm to be really not all that noticable with the proper grip technique. More muzzle flip by a small fraction, certainly not any more uncomfortable afterwards.

Thats weird. I've heard of guys shooting .38 and .357 snubs having some sore hands and fingers but this is the first I've heard from an XD sub compact. Wow.

Have you considered a Grip extension? That extra finger on the grip may make a lot of difference.

SubCompacts will have more muzzle flip so you need to get use to it. I think you are holding on too tight..... once you relax and get comfortable with it you should be ok.

Thanks all. I found some good examples and advice on grip. I think I'm just afraid (and untrained) of a .40 S&W. Im going to the range on Sat and applying what I've learned. Thanks again.
