I rented the XD40 service before I bought my XD(s). Actually rented all 4 XDs in the service model to help decide which one I wanted. My XD45 compact has better felt recoil than the 40. The 45 pushes back more than it flips up, IMHO. The 40 was too snappy for me, to much flip up. The XD357 was insane on recoil, but a lot of fun to shoot. I think you probably just need to adjust your grip. The 40 recoil is snappy, but it isn't uncontrollable by any means. If your XD40sc doesn't work out for you, sell it here on the forum and get yourself an XD9sc or XD45 compact. I have both and love them dearly........... Good luck Bro........

A gun that hurts will not get shot much. Get something that you will enjoy taking to the range. Gloves are not the solution.

Have you tried keeping your elbows slightly bent? Huge difference...
