XD Polished Barrel Question

I have an xd45C. It is in the all black finish. I want to eventually get the barrel fully polished. I love the all black w/ the stainless looking barrel look of my old 1911, and I would love the XD looking like that. This will be mostly a cosmetic change, plus seeing that a polished feedramp is kind of redundant, seeing that I have flawless reliability with my XD, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt.

Is there any downside to getting the barrel polished. Is it more susceptible to rusting? And is there anyone on these forums that knows somewhere I could send it to? Or could do it for me (I live in an apartment, no room for a little workshop or anything), and what would be an acceptable price to pay for it?

Thank you guys for being awesome by the way.

Edit - Or should I just suck it up and buy a stainless barrel for it from pistolgear.

I don't think you can polish off enough material to remove the rust protection but if it were me I would get the barrel from Pistol Gear. Unless you just like to work on your guns the time, effort, and cost just isn't worth it.

There is a guy doing barrel polishing on THR forum. I haven't done it, but the price looks pretty good ($30) and the work does too.

there is a metal polish called heavy metal polish thats what i used and i havent had any rust. if you take good care of your guns you shouldnt have a problem. one recomendation is not to polish the bottem of the barrel where it touches the locking block. i dont think its a good idea to modify that part of the barrel

Search "polish" on xdtalk, there are some good threads and lots of pictures of what guys have done with theirs. Good luck and shooting.

Guys I appreciate the links to the other forum for my work. I do quite a bit of work on Glock talk and Sigforum and a bunch of others.

I have several pictures of barrels, controls, guide rods etc that I polish, chrome and produce out of stainless steel as well.

Here are some pictures.

Barrel Polishing $30 return shipped to you. You can email me at
guns@customizedcreationz.com

Thanks
Todd

First is a XD45 Service barrel. Not the best picture, but I am working on becoming a better photographer !!!

I try to have a quick turnaround, usually 2-3 days. But I have done rush jobs for people and gotten them shipped out the same day I received it !!!
