.40 to 9mm conversion barrel?

Hello all. I saw this ad for a drop-in conversion barrel (40-9).
Springfield XD Standard Conversion Barrel .40to9mm - BuyItNow! Item: 8236040
Would this not, in theory anyway, cause a cycling problem due to the placement of the extractor and ejector? From the center of the primer to the outer rim of the casing, a 9 is roughly 20 thousandths smaller than a 40. I don't think it will work, but I could be wrong. Anyone had experience with this? Thanks.

I just started using my conversion barrel from EFK. I was worried at first on issues at home but after taking it out and actually firing it I am very impressed and have had 0 issues.

I still do a visual check of the firing pin and slide before each shot with 9mm but I am getting more comfortable with the performance.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Conversation barrels have been around for
the XD series for some time now.

Your observations are correct. It would
appear that a so called 'drop in barrel' is
a come on. Rest assured it is not. They
work and work fine.

Please visit our forum sponsor's site as
several of them provide after market
barrels, some drop in and some need to
be fitted. The latter, are match type
barrels. That would be your call.

A certain percentage of the "drop in" barrels won't work right without some fitting. The 9mm barrel I got for my XD Tac 40 did not work, EFK exchanged it for one that did. I don't know the exact percentage, but most drop in barrels work OK without fitting. Some won't.

Thanks for all your help guys. I guess it does not have to make perfect sense as long as it works. I have a 4" xd357. It should work the same, right? I know a 40 barrel (5") works, from experience. Another question: with this 9mm conv bbl, will it cycle correctly if you manually cycle it (not by firing)? No ejection probs there? Thanks again.
Also, I have noticed that Storm Lake barrels are cheaper than EFK. Are the EFK barrels better? How?

Is there any other kits out there for the service 9mm. I've heard of rumors of .22 coming out but what about .40, or other sizes.

Normally, you get what you pay for.

The vendor/manufacturer knows what
their merchandise is worth. It is up to
the consumer to decide.

You may see a .22 conversion in the future (but don't hold your breath) , but you are unable purchase drop in conversion barrels to convert to a larger caliber in the XD series. You can convert down, just not up....

That makes sense. Does anyone know what the exact difference is between the Storm Lake and the EFK? ie- material, finish, bore tolerances, rifling process (Cut broach rifling/ ECM rifling), twist ratio? Also, how about Bar-Sto barrels?

I don't know the difference between barrels but with research I would think you could read about it on their websites.

I did have problems cycling the 9mm rounds manually. In fact it seemed high and i was worried prior to using the new barrel. Of course shooting is different and like i said earlier i have had no issues so far.
