That's because most combat zone terrorists/guerillas today are wearing bulletproof vests, especially those in Iraq. You don't think they'd be asking for a .45 if they were fighting against your usual t-shirt skinny guy who hasn't been eating for 3 days?

The best caliber is the one you can shoot accurately and quickly. There is no magic bullet that will make up for poor shot placement. Practice, and stay safe.

Even a .22 will kill someone dead, at one time that caliber was used in the comision of more murders than any other caliber. I dont condone the .22 for unreliable ignition reasons but todays high performance ammunition will kiss someone just as dead no matter what the chambering. Its more about shot placement than caliber and it all comes down to what YOU personaly feel better with. Short answer though is YES, normaly bigger works better.

Geniva convention states you can not use Hollow point expanding ammo, which is one reason why the military uses ball ammo.

Another reason is, a bullet that goes thru and does not kill on the battle field takes out three of the enimey, the man you hit, and two to carry him. If the round expands and kills him, it is only one down.

Me I like the 40 cal, even though 99% of my hand gun experiance is with a 1911 45 acp.

There's no question in my mind that the United States spends too much on the military - whatever they're spending it on!!

I have no sympathy for Americans who are complaining about gas prices.

It was the Hague convention not the geneva and we did not sign it.

I have an xd45 compact and an xd9 sub compact, and I don't find the .45 much harder to conceal. The xd9 sc doesn't conceal better, enough to offset having both, in my opinion, so the xd9 is in the process of being sold. The sc is also less comfortable for me to hold, due to my big hands. It is also more difficult for me to shoot accurately, although I can still shoot "good enough to hit a crackhead " :P with it.
If i were to pick up another 9mm in the future, I would get a service sized one.

Don't drink the Kool-Aid.

That theory did not work in Vietnam and it doesn't work in the sand box. When you are fighting an enemy which does not value human life the wounded are left to die. The troops need weapons that KILL. Wounding is not an option.

I completely agree with Alpental. Carry the largest caliber you can shoot accurately and quickly.

I would go out on a limb and say that 9mm +P or +P+ HP's are more effective then .45 Ball when you take in expansion and the nasy would channel it would leave compared to the more clean and straight through of the ball ammo.
i don't mean to sound unschooled in the ways of the gun world but I am and thats why I'm here! So I've seen alot of posts with +P , +HP , and ball ammo etc, what exactly does this mean?
