All of this talk about malfuctions...
with all of these new threads about people having trouble with their xd's its making me weary of wanting one. the reason i was drawn to them was their inherent reliability....any thoughts on this topic? is the quality coming down? or are these very specific individual cases? or because of modified guns?

Nothing to worry about. you will have a misfeed or FTE in your first couple hundred rounds. after that, your pistol is warmed up and broken in. it won't have another "problem" for 10,000 rounds or so, when it might have another misfeed or stovepipe an ejected shell. I don't think these classify as "malfunctions" to worry about unless you plan on firing 1000 rds per day for the rest of your life. If you are that 1000 per day guy, you won't find a better gun than the XD to make that journey with you.

As cce1302 has stated you might have a few prob with the first few hundred rounds but its nothing to worry about. I have owned my XD for about 3 months and have put almost 1000 rds through it with only three failures all caused my the amunition not the gun. I have nothing to complain about with the gun just cheap ammo.

I have about 1000 rounds through mine with 0 malfunctions....oh- keep in mind...you don't see too many threads from people saying "my XD is flawless...that is all"....people tend to post more when they do have problems, even if they are the minority....

I completely disagree with the first few posters, I have not had any failures of any kind with 4 XD pistols I shoot regularly including my BIL's 2. Even in the first hundred rounds??? But never in the first 2k in my 40 and 1500 in my 45. My BIL's have many more rounds as he uses his competitively. BTW I use WWB and Speer as my only shooting rounds....
But I agree that it is possible, but very infrequent in my research.

Auto loaders are fun to shoot but the only gun you should bet your life on better have a round metal wheel where the bullets go in. I think the design of the XD is very good: as good as SIG or Beretta. As autos go, it is very reliable. That said, all autos can jam from a variety of reasons most of which are ammo related, user brainlocks, or lack of proper maintenance. If you want an auto for defense, the XD is as good as most autos and better than a Glock in my opinion. Last edited by bountyhunter; 02-28-2008 at 12:24 PM. |

I've put 1200 rds through my XD 9mm service and only had ammo problems no gun problems, love it and can't wait till I can buy another one which will be the 9mm sub compact. Don't worry just buy it and don't look back.
