I do on mine, no difference than when the slide cycles after a shot is taken as it reloads the next round in the chamber.Your going to love it

Not meaning you to do it on an empty chamber but on the first round.

It is good practice to ease the slide forward if there is no round in the gun.

I ease it forward, but see no harm it letting it shut on its own. The slide release button is pretty hard to push when its locked back so I always ease it.

I've always been told to ease the slide forward if there isn't a round in the mag. The breech face could be damaged, and/or screw up any fancy trigger work you have. That's what I've been told any how.

The part you are referring to is called a slide stop. It is meant to hold the slide open at the end of a magazine. You can use it to release the slide, but that method should only be reserved for when you cannot use your offhand to slingshot the slide into battery. Using your offhand helps insure that the reload goes into to battery properly.

Just my 2 cents

I often just push the release and let it slide. If it breaks SA will fix it.

I'd rather have my XD and not need it, then need it and not have it....

While it is true That SA will fix it, The issue is if you have to rely on your XD for defense and it fails, let just say you wont have time to send it to them.
