Ok, I replied in another thread about the slide locking open while shooting with the 12 round extended mag in my XD40SC...

I'll be damned if the new extended magazine didn't do the same thing.

I quit using the extended mags on my 40sc because I could feel them shift when I fired. Don't know if this is part of the issue, but it just bugged the heck out of me.

If you bought your SC as a defense/carry weapon, probably better to forget about the hi-cap mags and train only with the shorter one you will have in the pistol when carrying. I bought a second short one, and never took the extended mags out of the case.

Maybe this is relevant? This discusses a problem with the rounds
in the .40 XD magazine bumping up against the slide release, causing premature slide lock. Premature Slide Lock with the XD-40:Causes & Possible Cure gridboy |

This happened to me once with an XD45compact but I don't recall if it was on a 10 or 13 rnd mag. I was wearing gloves at the time and may well have contacted the slide release with the edge of a gloved thumb.

I have had this same problem with my XD40SC. I usually get one or two per hundred rounds when shooting my 12-rd mag.
Does anybody know if SA has addressed this? I see the article was written in 2k4. I'm considering the mods in that article, but would rather have a factory-approved solution, rather than taking a file to my new baby. |

I looked at the positioning of the top 2 rnds on the 45 mags and they are nearly vertical. Only a slight R-L displacement of rnd 2. With the slide off, the slide release does not appear to come anywhere near the rounds with either mag, and even with a lateral pressure applied to move the mag closer to the lever. My guess is my malf was due to gloved fingers getting in the way.
