What do you guys use to polish the surfaces? Any specific suggestions?

For polishing steel, I generally use 600# sandpaper and oil. If I want it real shiny, I use a cloth patch soaked in chrome polish and a popsicle stick.

The sear spring can be too light and what happens is that its not fast enough to reset, its like a timing issue.

You can polish metal with wet/dry paper and some oil. The finer you go the more polished it will become. Use a flat hard surface to support the paper.

The trigger bar will not change pretravel a noticeable amount. The Springer sear or the PowderRiver safety leaver will.

I've been having the same reset problem in the last few matches. Same as most guys here -- Canyon Creek springs, Springer trigger bar and sear, etc.
I was only able to verify at my last match over the weekend. The ejected round fell to my feet during a kneeling portion of the stage and I picked it up to inspect and found no hit at all on the primer. I've had it happen a few times lately but have been unable to locate the round due to a vigorous tap and rack....
Either way, I'll go back through and double check to see if anything is binding, correct that and probably throw in a new sear spring as well.

Yeah, but I'd like to have a over travel screw to go with it and I'm just toying with the idea for now, cause if I go through the trouble I want grip stippling, rounded trigger guard, and NP3 coat.
It's either I put money into my XD or use that money to build a FAL or AR; I'm leaning towards the latter since I already own the XD and I'm unsure as to how long I have until I can no longer acquire a semi-auto rifle.
Being in Ca it's a little more difficult to get exactly what I want in one of those rifles with what's available so shopping is tough.

True, the springer trigger bar can only be used with their sear. Together, they significantly reduce take up travel.

This story has a happy ending. I received a slightly stiffer sear spring from Richard and it fixed the problem. I was able to shoot about 150 rounds with zero problems. Changing the sear spring is surprisingly easy, I was very impressed with the thought put into the XD design.
