You know what else the XD needs?

All of this talk about the new thumb safety (an idea I like) made me start thinking... you know what else would be sweet on the XD's? A 1911-style trigger! You could still have the trigger safety, but instead of the trigger moving in an arc, it would have a straight, linear path like a 1911.

Discuss!

This is a good idea, but being a huge fan of the XD's trigger I have to say no thanks.

If you want a polymer 1911, just buy one.

Although I have to say I love the 1911 trigger...

No, I'm not so hot on the idea of a polymer 1911 (though it wouldn't be a bad idea). I mean to leave the XD like it is except add a solid, linear trigger. I personally think that the 1911 has the best trigger ever made, but I also love the XD. Why not have the best of both worlds?

I can't think of an easy way to put a linear trigger on an XD. I like linear triggers, but I like them on my 1911.

The design won't permit that type of trigger. Since the trigger bar must be pulled forward to rotate the safety lefter up and the sear down, you'd have to change the whole design of the firing mechanisms to make that work.

Admittedly, I'm a newer shooter with little experience on guns other than my P22 and my new XD-9. However, from what I've seen (and shot) so far, plus the dozens of reviews of different pistols I've read, the XD has one of the better triggers out there.

As for the safety, I thought about waiting and buying an XD with the new manual safety, but decided not to. I couldn't wait to own mine, plus I don't believe I'll ever miss having a manual safety with this handgun.
