Does the XD sight installation tool work well?
I'm curious if a lot of folks have tried the XD sight installation tool and found it to work well. It costs $95 here:
http://store.valueweb.com/servlet/xd...ool/Categories But the thing is, if you own just two XD's, and replace the sights on both of them, you probably will already have paid for the tool. Plus it gives you the ability to drift-adjust your existing fixed sights. Does this tool work well?

I did not such a tool existed.
If you get it I would love to help you pay for it if you let me borrow it.

It's supposed to work, I'd suggest PM'ing Old School or one of the XDguys.
It's also available at Pistolgear.com and XDguys.com

Do a search of my posts from last year. Don't even THINK of getting this for TFO's, or maybe even other tall night sights. I had to hack mine to pieces and even then it wouldn't work. I had to sand the top of my rear sight down to fit. A minor design change and this thing would work fine. I sent my post and ideas how to fix over 9-mos ago to the manufacturer. Guess the idiots would rather sell rushed out the door crap than do it right.
Another recent post had a universal sight tool that might be a better value if you ever get non-XD guns. Here's a pic of how far I had to file it down and still the TFO wouldn't fit. Notice I'm all the way down to the screw.

Does it work well? eh, it works. Still takes a ton of effort to get the originals off. Before you do it you want to lube the sight bases and the sight pushers threads. I filed down my MEPROLITEs bodies so they would go in easier.
