Cleaning the XD

Hi there, I'm new to the forum, but this seemed like a great place for a newbie. Just bought the XD 45ACP and took it out to the range. Now it's time to clean it, just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on cleaners to use. Never owned a polymear pistol before. I use Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber that is synthetic safe on my shotguns, anyone know if this will harm the finish at all? Anyway, thanks for any help you guys can provide. By the way, the XD shot awesome and I am totally impressed and pleased so far with my purchase!

Hello and welcome!!

I am a big fan of Slip2000 products.... www.slip2000.com. I use it on all my guns, and find it works wonderfully. I have not had a single issue as a result of this stuf.

Enjoy your .45! I love mine.

+1.

Add maybe an old toothbrush and if things get really gunked some Gunblast. That's all you ought to need.

I use breakfree. Its really a great product as it is a cleaner and a lubricant combined. Then I take a wire brush down the barrel and use some brushes for that little extra gunk in the crevices of the slide and frame. Your birchcasey should work fine as long as its synthetic safe for polymer. The XD really is about as reliable a weapon you can purchase. As long as you keep it even moderately clean it will fire each and every time you shoot it. In fact I always bring it to the range, get done cleaning it in like 10 minutes and then have the torture and pain of cleaning a 1911 right after, hardly as user friendly as the XD. Just be careful if you like to shoot reloads, not all XD's like them.

Welcome to XD talk.

Yes.

That's what I've always used on my XD's. It works great.

Just don't put it in the dish washer.

I use the gun scrubber (syn safe) it works well, but so does the CLP. I typically use the gun scrubber with brush for those stubborn areas and CLP for everything else.

+1 on the CLP and Boresnake.

Use my air compressor and blow all the excess fluids and crud out of the slide and frame.
