ATF might be too harsh to use on a polymer gun chassis.

I use Gun Scrubber for Synthetics as a spray cleaner on any polymer areas of the reciever. I use Hoppes #9 on a boresnake for bore cleaning and breech scrubbing. I then clean it off good and spray the Hoppes residue off of the slide and barrel with CRC Brake Cleaner (green can only!). I then lightly oil the rails and small reciever parts with Marvel Mystery Oil on a Q-tip. I also run a patch, lightly coated with Marvel Mystery Oil, through the bore followed by a dry patch to catch any excess. Finish with a reassembly and a final wipe with a dry clean lint free cloth.

I do this about every 500 rounds, or when I am just bored or needing to fondle the XD.

Has anyone come across any of the Break Free products that discolors the polymer frame of the XD?

My breakfree CLP has never left discoloration on my frame. I've used it on two xd's and a polymer-framed Taurus pistol.

It has also dripped onto the plastic handle and wood grips of my AK without leaving any marks.

Thanks to all you guys for the advice. I think I'm going to try the CLP Breakfree, I have heard nothing but good about that stuff, not that the Gunscubber isn't working for me, it works fine, but hey can't hurt to try something new right? Thanks again.

Holstering With M3x And Other Mounted Lights

Just wanted to see what yall are using for holsters for the XD 45 acp. I know this is off the topic of cleaning. I am new to the site and am waiting on my handgun permit from the sheriffs dept here in Rutherforton NC. I am also purchasing a light for it and getting the guide rod laser for mine. what are there for holsters for this handgun. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance for the input.

Now I may get lambasted for it.
I use WD-40 for the slide and Shooters choice for the bore, the frame I use a tooth brush and Shooters then use compressed air to remove excess cleaners and WD residue.

Like this?

I don't attach the M3X while carrying. It gets put in the pocket of my carry vest or coat or shirt. I use a MTAC holster for the .45 service.

Actually, not a bad idea - I doubt if the dishwasher would hurt it, and if you disassemble it, the spray would definately clean out the gunk in the crevices. Just oil it properly afterward...

I don't think there are many cleaners out there that will harm the finish or the polymer on your XD...

Just make sure that you do not clean it from the muzzle end of the barrel!!

Most people don't tell you that when cleaning, but always insert your cleaning rod, jags, brushes, etc...from the chamber end (where the cartridge is seated).

It's possible to do damage to the crown of your barrel (muzzle end where the bullet comes out to kill you), when cleaning from that end. It's just a possibility, but it can happen and i imagine most people would like to avoid that.
