Mismatched serial numbers.
I have no idea why I have the first thought that this would be illegal, but, if i were to swap someone my black .45 compact XD's slide for his 4" service stainless slide, would it be legal since we're now dealing with mixed serial numbers?

It could be leary if something ever happened with his gun or vice versa you dont want it coming back. when the cop at the police station did the safety check, im not sure if she just checked one or several, so i would call them to be sure, or maybe a LEO on here knows

OK, this makes no sense. The only thing the serial number matters on is the frame, as it is the only regulated part. If the factory replaces the slide or barrel the numbers won't match. I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of Glocks in use by Law Enforcement where all the numbers don't match.

my buddy had one of his guns serviced by Walther. They gave him a new barrel due to a defect in the original and freshly stamped the original number on the new barrel.......

I had a barrel replaced on a Taurus PT145 at the factory and it is a new number. The Frame is the only thing that the BATFE considers a gun. Most aftermarket barrel makers don't even stamp them, or it is for their identification only to track stock and quality control.

I had to send my XD40T back to Springfield with a cracked slide. They sent it back fast with a new slide and a new # on that slide. It's perfectly leagle.

I always thought the matching serial numbers were just to confirm the parts were fitted properly together so if a replacement part is also fitted properly, no issue.
