I bought my P99c before I shot it. It felt perfect in my hand. But the muzzle flip was too much for me to handle. Regardless of how good it feels, how cool it looks, how great the price seems, and how well everyone who owns one talks about it, you need to shoot it to see if you can handle what it throws at you. The trigger pull might be too long for your fingers or too gritty for your taste, the recoil might put too much strain on your wrist for adequate training, etc. If I had shot the P99c first, I wouldn't have bought one.

I have shot a XD45ACP. My friend has one. I fits my hand well and the trigger is fine. I don't like the recoil of the 45 though. He has shot the 9mm and said the recoil isn't near as bad. I think that I like the gun and would like less recoil, so I think it would be fine.

I always thought my Glock.40 had more felt recoil!

You realize that the XD is coming out with a safety version--this year--correct?

I would be using it for target shooting and home defense. Am I being too cautious putting all my doubt on no safety?

Keep your finger off the trigger. Keep your damn finger off the trigger. Keep your damn finger off the damn trigger.

I to just purchased a Tactical XD in 45 was thinkin about the M&P, Glock and the HKP30, to be honest held all of them- not shot but held and the XD came out on top, in addition there was alot of supporting evidence to go with the XD from owners and gunshop guys.

In 45, 4" only. I want 9mm in 5".

I still don't trust having absolutely no safety feature. Too many things can happen.

It's not that the recoil was horrible, but more than I would like. I also like the cheaper ammo of the 9mm.
