10mm died, when
Kimber is offering their stainless target 2 in 10mm.
It is my understanding that they have had one hell of a time making enough of them to met demand. The 10mm, 44 spec. and 41 mag. are cartridges that have had to stand on their own merits. The reason they are still around, is they work, very well and do things some of the more contempary cartridges won't. |

I'm still not impressed by it personally. It doesn't offer enough power over 45acp +p to justify the need to change calibers in my opinion. If I wanna jump up in power I'll just pick up a .357 magnum or greater.

Didn't the FBI make it their choice for them as their bullet size for their side carry weapon?? Am I wrong?

In glock yes, the FBI did/does from what I understand.
Your best way to get an answer to this is to contact S.A. directly. I have in the past about the 10 mm and was told that, "they have no plans at that time to produce one." But, 2 weeks ago, I was told that about the thumb safety also. They will let us know when they want to let us know, ya know.

The FBI did select the 10mm for there carry weapon nearly 20years ago. It didn't last long. They found that because of the large grip of most 10mm guns and the substantial recoil that smaller and many female agents could not adequately control the weapons. They started down loading the cartridge to compensate. S&W saw the down loaded cartridge and realized they could create a new cartridge that shot the same bullet at these reduced power 10mm velocities and do it with the same overall length of a 9mm rather than the OAL of a 45ACP like the 10mm. And you have the birth of the 40S&W.
The 10mm is a very capable cartridge but for the same reason 44 spec. and 41 mag have never really caught on. It has never generated the sale and acceptance. For hunting there are more established cartridges like the 357Mag and 44Mag that can do every thing a 10mm can and more. For most self-defense and law enforcement application the 10mm is simply too much gun for most people. It simple fills a niche (quite nicely at that) that not a lot of people need filled. mcb PS more 10mm info here Last edited by mcb : 01-31-2008 at 05:28 AM. Reason: added 10mm info link |

I do have the Glock 20 and love it. I would purchase one in a NY minute if SA would produce it. Guess I'll have to call to just put in my2c

10mm has a cult like following. I think it's next to the .45 GAP in least produced/sold GLOCK and SA is taking note of that.
