Slide Spring

Is it harmfull to the slide spring to keep the slide pulled back on my XD40 to accomodate a gun lock? I am aware of the fact that some people who carry duty pistols will leave bullets in their magazines for months at a time causing the magazine spring to set at tension and possibly cause a misfire. But would this problem also happen with the slide spring?

myth on the mag spring. I have mags that have been loaded for literally years that function just like new. What wears a spring down is constant compression and decompression. Your recoil spring is fine with a lock in it as it's semi compressed, but it's stationary so no stress is put on it. Shooting it though will wear it out slowly. Just the design of springs in general.
