Can The Grip safety Lock up an XD?

This is the first I had heard of this:

Can an XD be hopelessly jammed by the grip safety?

I mean, lock it up so bad it has to be "drilled apart" by the factory?

Just wondering if this is a myth because I never heard it before.

If I had to venture a guess, it would be no. I haven't looked at the inside of an XD for about a month, but as I recall the GS only blocked the downward movement of the sear. If anything, couldnt one just drift the GS pin out?

I've seen people do enough stupid things to not say never, but not likely. You can punch the pin that hold it in out while the gun is full assembled and once the pin is out you can just pull it out.

I suppose if one used Krazy Glue instead of oil during cleaning... I bet if anything it'll happen in my state first. I don't put anything over us.

I suppose if something got stuck behind the safety, yes. I have pulled massive amounts of lint out from behind the grip safety of my carry guns.

If the pin is pushed partially out, that can also make the grip safety hard to press. But not impossible, if anything, the safety will get stuck once you squeeze it into the "fire" position.

Maybe Loves2shoot can verify something I heard, and it might be what's being eluded to here:

Quote:
1)
Depress the safety grip half way in and then lower the slide, you need to do it just right. The slide peels the top portion of the grip safety off inside the slide and locks up the gun.

2)
Put your XD in a box and ship back to springfield. They will drill out the takedown lever, replace the grip safety and send back to you in 4 weeks.
Have you ever heard of this Scott? I'm told this is a known design flaw, the key being "you need to do it just right.

Since the slide can't touch the grip safety unless you take the slide off and bang it on the grip safety, you could break it theory that way, but then the slide would already be off.

The sear could damage the safety, but you can take the slide off even if the sear got stuck so you can't pull the the trigger. You just remove the striker and it just take it off. You might have to drill the striker pin out, but that is worst case.

Even if the safety were damaged by the sear, you just pull the pin and remove it. Then you can lower the sear and take the slide off.

I would think someone misunderstood what they were really doing, the thing isn't that complicated.

So then to your knowledge (and I would suspect you'd know), this isn't a well known in the industry "design flaw"?

I don't know everything, but "as described" it seems a bit ridiculous.

Yes, don't depress the grip safety and you can't rack the slide because the sear won't drop and it hits the striker. If you got it "just so" you "might" be able to stick it up, but it would be easy to fix.

When they first posted this several of us tried to replicate this and were never able to. Just like Love2Shoot says if it did happen it would be an easy fix.
