Yeah, I agree with that. Somebody on another forum claimed the grip safety can be manipulated in a way that jams the gun and requires the factory to "drill the slide". Sounded like BS to me, because I could easily tap that pin and pull the safety out. If it was caught in some way, it's just plastic: before I'd let anybody drill the slide I would take a Dremel to the safety and chop it up and drag it out.

I kind of figured this was another myth being peddled by Glock lovers, but I wanted to find out for sure.

I ran this by the guys and SA today and their response was the same as mine, never heard of it and it makes no sense.

1)
Depress the safety grip half way in and then lower the slide, you need to do it just right. The slide peels the top portion of the grip safety off inside the slide and locks up the gun.

2)
Put your XD in a box and ship back to springfield. They will drill out the takedown lever, replace the grip safety and send back to you in 4 weeks.
See! I knew XD was a crap gun..

In my old age, I tend to think arguing with Glock worshippers is a complete waste of time.... especially when showing them why they are wrong invoves them understanding how the internals of the guns actually work. And "linking up" to other forums on a controversial topic will often get a nastygram from the moderators for piling on.

I just wanted to make sure this was a myth so I would know for sure.

Hmmm

The slide peels the top portion of the grip safety off inside the slide

How would the slide "peel" off the top of anything. It would just stop the slide. Then maybe a pull to the rear and it should unlock. Worst case I could understand and you might have a slightly boogered up part. I've seen some weird weapons malfunctions here in the 'Ghan but one part peeling metal off another? The thing that scares me is the guy doing work on my XD40 commented on Glock Takl that he's seen it happen. And he is VERY Reputable. So far I've only been able to confirm one slight problem with the XD and that's the XD40s slide lock/round interfearence problem and I read about it here and it was easily solved.

I'm not sure if you're being facetious or just haven't read the responses from the people that know XDs intimately.

I can envision if somehow the grip safety engaged the sear just WRONG it might break and jam up the sear. Then you could not get the slide off because you need to "fire" the sear to get it behind the striker tab to remove the slide.

But, if the grip safety did "self destruct" and a piece jammed the sear, you could just drive the pin out and remove the grip safety. Then you could use a thin probe to clear out the crud and free up the sear.
