SA XD-45LE Tactical or SA 1911A1 Operator
Ok.......I may be opening up a whole new can-o-worms here, but I've been wanting to ask the XD'ers out here for awhile now....so here goes:
For purposes of having a general purpose .45 used as a house gun and a range gun, what do you guys think? For the purposes of this thread, let's pretend that ammo costs are the same between cartridges......I'm more referring to fit and function. I've never owned (and only fired once) a 1911A1, so I'm asking about this purely in the blind. A work associate told me the 1911 is a pain to clean whereas my XD's are a cinch.......I suppose 'cuz there's less parts to deal with. I guess I'm just a little afraid of spending the money and owning something that's plain too much of a pain in the butt to deal with, if that's the case. Anyway, whatchya's think? |

I'd Vote the Operator TRP......
An all steel gun will last a lifetime.....Plastic does not.

The XD is amazingly quick to take apart and clean compared to my wilson. I agree with the steel gun idea also. I would go with the Tactical if you are worried about the maintenance. Springfield Warranties all of their weapons for a lifetime. So get both

I'd get the Operator simply from a balistics standpoint. I have not been impressed by then 45 GAP round (I know there are some people who love this round, but I'm not one of them). And the Operator is a great looking and shooting pistol

If you want a .45, get a 1911. As far as cleaning, the first time you take apart a 1911, it does take a while. It's definitely not a easy a take down on an xd. However, after a few cleaning session on the 1911, it won't be anything to worry about.

Personally if I was going to buy a .45 for range and home use it'd be a 1911. I like the XD as a 9mm/.357/.40 platform but when you step it up to .45 the 1911 has stood the test of time.

if it si a choice between the 1911 in 45 ACP and an XD in .45 gap I would take the 1911. I prefer pistols in the calibers they were designed around. which means my XD's are 9mm and my 1911'a are .45ACP.

Everybody needs a 1911. I have every intention of buying a XD Tactical .45 but I already own a Springfield 1911 loaded.
Buy the 1911 and later if you still are interested in the Tactical 45 buy it. I own both .45ACPs and .45GAPs and love them both. Of course I like the .357SIG too and many people see no use for it either. Variety is the spice of life. |

1911, it has stood the test of time and you can easily customize it to fit you perfectly.

As soon as I finish gunkoting my SA1911, I'm trading/selling it off for a .45 Tactical.
I like 1911's but the XD has demonstrated it's dependablity and ruggedness to be on par and above many 1911's out there. It's all personal preference though.
